Frequently Asked Questions

What is UK Study English?

UK Study English is a free course-finder platform that helps you discover and compare British Council accredited English language schools across the UK. We’re not a school — we connect you directly with schools so you can find the right course at the right price, with no middleman fees.

We currently list 35+ schools across 12 UK cities. You can browse and compare courses using our Course Finder.

Is there a fee for using UK Study English?

No — UK Study English is completely free for students. Schools pay a subscription to be listed on our platform, and that cost is never passed on to you.

Unlike traditional agencies that add 15–25% commission to course prices, you deal with schools directly at their own published prices. There are no hidden charges or booking fees.

How do I find the right course?

Use our Course Finder to filter by course type, city, and budget. You can compare schools side by side and enquire directly from any listing.

If you’re unsure of your level, take our free English Level Test — it takes about 15–20 minutes and gives you a personalised recommendation based on your results.

What types of English courses are available?

Our schools offer a wide range of courses including General English, IELTS Preparation, Cambridge Exam Preparation, Business English, Academic English, One-to-One Tuition, Young Learner programmes, Adult 30 Plus, and Specialist Courses.

You can also study English in a teacher’s home through our Home English Tuition service — a fully immersive one-to-one option available throughout the UK.

Which cities can I study in?

We list schools across 12 UK cities: London, Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Bath, Bournemouth, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and York.

London has the widest selection of schools, but each city offers its own advantages in terms of cost, culture, and lifestyle. Use the Course Finder to filter by city.

Are the schools accredited?

Yes — every school listed on UK Study English is British Council accredited under the Accreditation UK scheme. This means they meet rigorous standards for teaching quality, student welfare, and facilities.

You can view the full list of accredited schools on our schools directory and verify any school’s status on the British Council’s official A–Z list.

Are there courses for complete beginners?

Yes — most schools on UK Study English offer courses for complete beginners. You’ll be tested on your first day and placed in the right class for your level, so there’s no need to worry about keeping up.

If you’d like to check your level before you arrive, take our free online Level Test.

What is the minimum age to study?

The minimum age for adult English courses is 16. For younger learners, several schools offer courses for children — some accept students from as young as 5.

You can filter for Young Learner courses in the Course Finder, or contact our team for advice on courses for under-16s.

What happens after I submit an enquiry?

We forward your enquiry to the school and you’ll receive a confirmation email straight away. A course adviser will get in touch within 1–2 working days to discuss your options, availability, and pricing.

You then book and pay the school directly — UK Study English is not involved in the transaction and never charges you anything.

Do I need a visa to study in the UK?

Students from outside the EEA may need a visa depending on the length and type of study. Different visa types suit varying study lengths and language levels.

UK Study English cannot provide immigration advice, but you can check your requirements on the official UK government website. Your chosen school may also be able to help with the documentation you need.
