About these courses
Young Learners courses are English programmes for kids and teenagers, built around a full day rather than just a classroom. Students are typically aged 8 to 17, grouped by age and level, and lessons in the morning are followed by an afternoon of activities: sport, art, cultural visits, day trips. The idea is that English keeps getting used outside the classroom without it feeling like extra school.
Staff are experienced working with this age group, and supervision runs through the day, not just during lessons. Most schools include structured pastoral care and many arrange airport transfers, which matters if a student is travelling without a parent.
What the price depends on
We currently list 71 young learner courses across 21 UK schools, priced from £185 to £1,699 a week. That range is wider than adult general English because most young learner prices include accommodation, food and the activity programme in one weekly fee, not just tuition. Typical pricing sits between roughly £490 and £1,000 a week depending on whether the stay is homestay or residential, how many activities and trips are included, and the school’s location. A course quoting a low weekly figure and one quoting a high one may not be comparable unless you check what’s actually bundled in.
When courses run
Almost all young learner courses run during school holidays. Summer is the main season, with a smaller number of Easter and half-term courses. Course length typically runs from 1 to 12 weeks, and most schools set fixed start and end dates around the holiday calendar rather than year-round rolling starts, so it’s worth checking specific dates before you plan travel.
Comparing courses for kids and teenagers
Beyond price, check class size, the ratio of staff to students during activities, whether accommodation is homestay or residential, and whether transfers and 24-hour pastoral care are included as standard or cost extra. Accreditation matters here too, and a British Council accredited school will have been inspected on safeguarding as well as teaching.
The courses below are listed at each school’s own price, with no commission added, so you can compare what’s included before you enquire.
