Anglotec Academy is a British Council accredited English school in Scarborough on the North Yorkshire coast, open since 1986. It teaches adults all year and teenagers in summer, and arranges homestays with local families within walking distance of the school.

A seaside school since 1986

Anglotec Academy (called Anglolang until 2024) has taught English in Scarborough since 1986. It is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK. Its last British Council inspection was in June 2024.

Courses all year

Adults aged 16 and over can study General English for 15 hours a week, with an optional afternoon class in IELTS, Business English or Academic English. Prices change with the season and are lowest in winter. There is also a University Pathway Programme leading to the Kaplan Test of English, a Culture by the Coast course for students aged 50 and over, and a summer programme for teenagers aged 12 to 18.

The school building

Classes are in a 19th-century house with interactive whiteboards in every classroom, free WiFi, a computer room, a 4K cinema, a café and a large garden. The beach and town centre are a short walk away.

Accommodation through the school

The school arranges homestays with local families for adults and under-18s, all within 3 km of the school and most within 1 km. Hosts provide breakfast, a packed lunch and dinner, with vegetarian and halal options. Homestay costs £230 a week. The school can also help adults find self-catering flats and guest houses.
